Definitely a work should enjoy the work he is doing.
If he will do so the productivity of his work will be enhanced automatically.
And thats why its said that a work shouldnt let any prejudice override his work objectivity.
More pleasure and satisfaction a work will have while doing his work will enhance his performance.
and this pleasure and satisfaction comes from appreaciation for a job being done well, working condition, friendly coleagues salary etc.

What an excellent question!   I think we all must actively seek happiness in our work areas.
Majority of us are not fortunate enough to be able to make profession out of our hobbies and interests.
However, if circumstances permits, we should make our professional environment better by taking more interest in the profession we are in, by learning new aspects of the business, by opening ourselves to take new responsibilities and by showing that we care about the profession we are in.
I am personally following this approach in my work and have developed a keen interest in the technical side of the business in addition to the operational side that is my core area of expertise.
Having seen my interest, management has also given me more responsibilities that I am honestly enjoying more everyday.
