How to manage extract work from your subordinate, if he is short tempered ?

In general, you should not attempt to "extract" work from a subordinate.  ("Extract" is different from motivate, encourage and support, which you should do.)   If that subordinate doesn't want to do the work, find somebody who does. 

Having said that, it is less trouble to fix a problem than it is to fire and hire.  Set up a performance review with the subordinate:  explain the problem and the end state you'd like to achieve, and than talk about how you can get from here to there.  The subordinate may need some kind of support.  If they start shouting and deny there is a problem, then you may have to go down the disciplinary route.

i would rather give him the kind of work which he is good at and try to listen to him. And later would even try to find out the reason why he/ she has a short temper which we can talk about.
