There is a lack of detail in your question and so suggesting any sort of hedge is out of the question. What is your investment in? Have you taken a long exposure or a short exposure? Is it in derivatives or vanilla equities? WIthout this information, I doubt anyone can answer your question correctly.

In order to preserve capital and see modest capital appreciation over the years, ensure you have a diversified portfolio. Just like the old adage goes, do not put all your eggs in one basket - that is very true for investing. Equities are a good play but even within equities one needs to diversify. Nobody ever thought oil would go down by% ! But it did. Gold was considered the most stable investment at one point. But it was proved wrong. These days technology seems like the best bet and people are pouring all their money into it. What happens tomorrow is dependant on several factors only some of which are visible to the common man. So diversification is key. Growth is inevitable then if you have selected the right securities and funds.
