Can always be a Team Leader more knowledgeable than the members otherwise is not a successful leader?

A team leader need not be more knowledgeable than the individual team members. A team leader's success is defined by how he can function as a motivator, harmonizer and an optimizer to his team members.

not necessary, team leader leads the team to assign the work and manage and motivate them to utilize their skills for best result and productivity.

not necessarily but he should have the complete knowledge about his team members. What are the skills and aptitudes all the individuals have in the team. If he is able to put "right man at the right job" keeping all other mange mental factors in view, he will be the successful leader.
