Marketing and Sales can create value to a firm by doing all of the above. a very good product promotion strategy from the marketing department would help affecting the consumers' perception of the product. An effective communication of the details of the product to the consumers and their needs back to the R& D department can be done by a good sales department. A very good sales department can also discover consumer needs an effective communication with consumers and assessment of their interest. All of them can help in creating value to the product line specifically, or to the organization as a whole.

Value can be added not only by this department but by every single individual who works in the firm. Even a truck or van driver can make or break the value of the firm by misbehaving on the road (traffic) with a vehicle carrying the logo of the company.
