They can be important if there is something to actually say on a daily basis. Otherwise it would be efficient enough to keep it a once a week meeting preferably at the beginning of the week so that employees know what path to stay on, and of assignments.

Daily meetings are value enhancers when there is clear  agenda and timeline for the meeting otherwise they are just time wasters where the talkers talk and the managers flaunt.

Hey!  According to my point of view; meeting can provide an opportunity to discuss concerns, if expertise are involved then it could be more useful such like making a fruit and also brainstorming is a process for identification of problem, solution and conflict among the participants too.

I'm not in favor of daily meeting. meeting should be on weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually.

And also we need time for implementation not all the time just wast our time on thinking, if we hold meetings on daily basis than it could be useless.

Daily MeetingDefinition

Each day at the same time, the team meets so as to bring everyone up to date on the information that is vital for coordination: each team members briefly describes any "completed" contributions and any obstacles that stand in their way. Usually, Scrum's Three Questions are used to structure discussion. The meeting is normally held in front of the task board.

This meeting is normally timeboxed to a maximum duration of15 minutes, though this may need adjusting for larger teams. To keep the meeting short, any topic that starts a discussion is cut short, added to a "parking lot" list, and discussed in greater depth after the meeting, between the people affected by the issue.

Also Known As

Also known as:

  • the "daily stand-up": from Extreme Programming, which recommended participants stand up to encourage keeping the meeting short
  • the "daily scrum": by reference to the name of the Scrum framework, and alluding to the huddle-like appearance of a rugby scrum (somewhat paradoxically: see the historical note below)
  • the "huddle", "roll-call", or any number of variants

Common Pitfalls

  • perhaps the most common mistake is to turn the daily meeting into a "status report" with each member reporting progress to the same person (the team's manager, or the appointed Scrum Master) - exchanges in the daily meeting should be on a peer-to-peer basis
  • a second common pitfall is a daily meeting which drags on and on; this is easy to address with a modicum of facilitation skills
  • a third common issue is a team finding little value in the daily meeting, to the point where people will "forget" to have it unless the Scrum Master or project manager takes the initiative; this often reveals a lukewarm commitment to Agile
  • one final common symptom: the "no problem" meeting, where no team member ever raises obstacles ("impediments" in Scrum parlance), even though the team is manifestly not delivering peak performance; this is sometimes an indication that the corporate culture makes people uncomfortable with discussing difficulties in a group setting.

Signs Of Use

Sit in on a daily meeting as an observer. This is an excellent way to learn a great deal very quickly about a team's familiarity with Agile practices.

Expected Benefits

  • the daily meeting prevents a common failure mode of teams, where in the absence of an explicit occasion to share recent information, some critical knowledge may sometimes "fall through the cracks"
  • regular peer-to-peer sharing of information in a short, focused and energetic meeting also contributes to team cohesion
  • stand-up meetings are reliably shorter, more pleasant and more effective than sit-down meetings

Daily meetings are very important to set the strategy of the day and also keep the employees motivated towards their work.

Well, in my opinion ......... the schedule of meetings is all depends upon the nature of business, needs & urgency to take important decisions.

As far as Sales & marketing is concerned ........ we have a tight & fix schedule of weekly, monthly, quarterly & annual meetings............. but as the need arises to take certain decisions, I arranged and attended even2 meetings a day.

The agenda of the meeting should be very clear and there should be a positive outcome in optimum required time. If it is so, anybody should have no issue whether its a daily or a weekly meeting.

Daily meeting if held with a purpose, precise, to the task is very beneficial , not just for the sake of meeting but to review and give right direction with correction/amendment is very fruitful.

Meetings build and enhance the relationship with suppliers and parteners ,but waste time in one case when you are not involved and not spcailist.

Daily meeting! What type of targets or issues would require to chart out strategy on daily basis? In normal conditions would be just waste of time and resource.
