The are Qualitative and Quantitative data types.  There are3 types of Qualitative data:

* Binary, e.g. Yes/No, accept/reject

* Ordinal/ordered, e.g. small/medium/large

* Nominal/unordered, e.g. country of origin

Quantitative data is divided into2 types:

* Discrete/Attribute data: based on counts, cannot be subdivided meaningfully,  e.g. number of children.

* Continuous/Variable data: can meaningfully be subdivided into finer elements,  e.g. mass, length.
