Recycling asphalt has a variety of benefits for both the asphalt company and the consumer – Environmental and Economic.

Environmental Benefits:

  • Recycling old asphalt reduces the amount of new oil needed and may reduce dependence on foreign oil.
  • Recycling saves on construction material waste since the recycled material is not sent to a landfill.
  • Recycling the mineral particles that are produced during the process of asphalt pavement helps conserve natural resources.

Economic Benefits:

  • Taxpayers save money through the recycling of asphalt.
  • Contractors save by reducing energy, materials, and transportation costs.
  • Asphalt can be recycled multiple times, ensuring its value.

the best benefit is the environmental , but there can be a shortage of materials as well , so it can be needed!

Recycling asphalt pavement makes both environmental and economic sense. Reclaimed asphalt pavement constitutes a “treasure trove” of pre-processed road-building materials. The use of recycled asphalt pavement has grown widely, reducing the use of virgin materials and helping to preserve landfill space. Highway agencies and taxpayers benefit because recycling stretches tax dollars, allowing more roads to be kept in better condition.

Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is the term given to removed and/or processed materials containing asphalt and aggregates.  These materials are generated when asphalt pavements are removed for construction, resurfacing, or to obtain access to buried utilities.  When properly crushed and screened, RAP consists of high- quality, well-graded aggregates coated by asphalt cement.

There are too many benefits for RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) as followed;

1- There is a profit/savings potential of ~70% of material cost.  The wide savings range relates directly to the range in asphalt costs.

2- Asphalt Recycling benefits the environment in many ways.  In particular, it reduces quarrying, mining and oil consumption.  Every year, millions of tons of asphalt is recycled.  Asphalt recycling reduces our consumption of scarce natural resources (aggregate and asphalt) and simultaneously keeps these millions of  tons of material.

3- Recycling asphalt also dramatically reduces the consumption of resources such as fuel, machinery, transportation and labor when compared with producing virgin asphalt materials.
