Designer as term stands for a person which develop a concept for Human usage, you have !0s of specialties and disciplines out there (Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design... etc).

Graphic Design is a person who develop a message visually for a specific target audiences; using Typography, Grid System, Shape, Form and Colors, in a harmonic combination .

 

A graphic designer specializes in graphic but a designer can be anything.

In general, a designer is a person who can design with different mediums. And a Graphic Designer is the person who design with the help of graphic software.

A Designer is a generic term where as Graphic Designer is specific term. A designer is anyone who is capable of designing a concept, an art or an art form, user interfaces etc. A graphic designer is a professional who play around with typography, graphic software tools like Adobe Photoshop, who creates brochures, business cards, standees etc. Their area of employment is not restricted to printed media these days, as they are also involved in online media like creating templates of websites, mobile app UI.
