Well no one can dis agree that by discounting you can raise more sales but the question is for How Long you can Sustain that Level ? Actually discounting prompts price war among competition which is not good for oneself and industry overall. So discounting rationally and occasionally is good to attract customer is off peak season, low times but as a habbit can kill your business

Actually it is not , it is just a way to delight your customer sometimes to promote your products 

but the actual sales can be increased by providing  quality products to the right customers

Many hypermarkets offer Daily special discounts on various products, that  make to have a routine visit inside especially evening and night timings, this increase an extra boost on sales in general.  It is must for certain malls to improve the visitors as it is their moral responsibility to increase the number of visitors as they charge higher rents for subletting- the entertainment outlets, restaurants, cinema and areas which constitute the main income for them by way of comfortable rent earning to run their main stream of business.
