What kind of control system used in process industry?

Most of the Industry are Used PLCs, ICS, SCADA SYSTEMS,

that is also called Human Machine Interface(HMI) 

The most known Industrial control system are SCADA systems (PLC with supervision and data acquisition) and distributed control systems (DCS),but there is other smaller control system configurations such as compact  PLC or numeric process controller (regulator) .

 

We normally use DCS for our petrochemical and fertilizers plants for controlling and monitoring signals all over the plant. Only package units (compressors, turbines, etc.) are controlled through PLC which is configured and programmed by vendors. ESD systems are also used as separate systems from DCS systems.

In  industrial control system we used (DCS) distributed controlling syatem and (PLC) progamable logical controllers.

There are two type of control system using in every where one local control which is by manual operator and second is automatic control system control by DCS 

programmable logic controller (PLC) and DCS

 

 

There is tow section of loop control .1- Manual control It is very old system it works by manumatic system send the signal to the control valves.2- Full automatic system controlled by computer programming like PLC , DCS and SCADA system which send the signal to the control valves .

There are many kinds of control systems used in process industry it depends upon size of plant and this plant is located in one location or it is distributed over different locations. Also what are functions we need from system such as reading, control, real time visualization, trends, history,...

According to size If your plant consists of few loops(such as water treatment plant) you may use PLC, if plant consists of different locations (such as transmission pipe lines) you need SCADA to connect different sites and also give visualization of plant also provide remote set points change. If site is huge consists of many complicated and connected loops (such as petrochemical factory) you may use DCS to give you full control over plant.

You may also use two systems or three(PLC, SCADA, DCS) in one plant and connect all to interchange data between them.

The most systems now working with PLC (programmable logic control), with SCADA system, or DCS system.
