What are the MAJOR effects of the "algorithm-filtered Facebook News Feed" compared to "Real-time News Feed", in terms of "social experience"?

I think news feed filtering is a good option to get rid of the most of the spam and low quality posts.

All those posts with no interaction and of low quality never comes up in the news feed if you have selected the important posts option instead of most recent option for news feeds.

 

This was quoted back in August2013

“With so many stories, there is a good chance people would miss something they wanted to see if we displayed a continuous, unranked stream of information."

The technique is based on the Google Page Rank. Facebook Introduced the Edge Rank.

Normally those posts are removed from the news feed or have very low visibility which are meaningless, low quality and spam links.

Due to this only some good quality posts comes up on your wall. Which is a good thing.

 

Though you still have option to select the most recent news feeds instead of only top stories.

The main purpose of these changes to prevent spam posts out of the news feeds.

Though one also miss other posts which are posted by your friends or family members.

See the below major effects which makes an impact on social experience:

 

- If Facebook users clicked your links, liked or commented on your posts in the past,  then the Facebook assumes that the users are keen to see more of your stuff, and gives it higher priority in that user’s News Feed.

So try posting regularly (especially on week days).

 

- If a user interacts with your Page in the morning, your content that afternoon or the next day will be more likely to show up in their feed. Facebook has a hierarchy of post types. Photos and videos take top priority. Links are second, and plain text status updates are at the bottom end.

For major impact, try posting photos.

 

- Comments are weightier than likes, but both affect the overall weight of the post. So a text-based status update with50 likes and10 comments will be more likely to show up in the Newsfeed than a photo with no engagement at all. The longer your post has been on Facebook, the less likely it will be to show up in a user’s News Feed.

Encourage engagement by answering questions and participate in contests

 

KEY POINTS OF FB NEWSFEED ALGORITHM:

1.       user’s past interactions with the author

2.       user’s past interactions with that post type

3.       reactions from other users for that particular post

4.       amount of complaints or negative feedback on that post
