There are many reasons for a project being delayed or say fail to take off! While most focus is stressed on delivering on time, even the most efficient of project managers tend to deviate from putting few corrective actions in place post each toll gate. Trying to juggle between two or more activities all together might take away much time to head on to the productive side of taking up a project. Analyze!! Do we really have the right ''crew'' on boarded? It is always better to have on board people who have the hands on experience of delivering projects on time rather than taking people newer or with lesser experience in PM.

The main reason why projects take longer is that in most cases the business case and business requirements are not adquetely defined at the intial stage. This usually is caused by poor communication between the client and the project implementers. To solve this problem make sure the client and and the implementers cover each feature in detail to be sure reqiurements are  described exactly as they should work

Dear  Rami, Thank u indeed for your invitation, I think there's many reasons , first lack of professional communications, conflicts between several parties ( i.e. govermental sector), financial issues ( deficit of budget as a result of professional costing ).....discipline......etc

Do you mean to say the project delivery ?  One main reason could be ontime financial support, or sudden move of resources! this happens most of the time.  Keep moving the resources to new projects, leaving the Project In Progress at a greater risk, thinking it is close to completion and major works are completed!

The main reason for me is not having proper communication and lack of interest from either party

Dear Mr. Ramzy Zakher,

Defining the scope of work and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) are the most important part, and we should not forget to add the risks planning within the project.

Regarding the communication with stakeholders; this factor has its weight in by writing a success story for the project.

i hope my answer helps, since the scope should be determined on the initiation of any project.

I agree with Mr. Salauddin Mohammad's answer.

As he says, some of the reasons are:

Expansion of functionality

Gold plating

Neglecting quality control

Overly optimistic schedules

Working on too many projects at the same time

Mediocre personnel

Poor Design

Customers fail to fulfil agreements

Relatively, it depends on:

1- Amount of risks

2- Core competency

3- Effective control

4- Common understanding

5- Required degree of quality
