yes but not in fridays

It depends on your major (sales, construction, design, oil....etc). But I think these principles always  are applied at least by observations and analysis to make experince. However, engineers apply the knowledge rather than examine it and go into theory.

Conversely apply the principles of science and mathematics your daily tasks. Not for science and mathematics to become an engineer.

Yes because applied load, moment and its reactions on the structures is taken in consideration each time and so the principles of science and mathematics are used.
