In Sales How will you handle situation where your predecessor has cheated an important customer and owes him money,Customer is asking you pay for him?

In my opinion you have to subtedly acknowledge it and try to know the situation in detail,without offending the customer try to win him over by your dedicated and prompt service & professional approach and assurance that it will not be the case with you.
