Check the LED colour is it green mean working , red or amber / orange mean some problem.Device manager is also good and easy way to show is you LAN /NIC working or not.

    Go to command prompt and try to ping an IP 127.0.0.1 If its replayed without any packets its mean the NIC card is working properly
