Would you rely on information given to you verbally to get the job done?

No. Or should I say not directly.

In my current role I am normally covering30-50 projects at a time (of varying size) & if I had to rely on verbal communications I would soon lose track.

That doesnt mean I dont rely on verbal communications but I ALWAYS back it up with something in writting even if its just my confirmation of what I understand to be the issue & actions required.

Absolutely! If it's the business requirement. Not every task is a project and for small-scale jobs we don't exactly require a project charter or a requirements document.

why is it that  uae here if you didn't work  here more than three or four years  you don't get job to do  why?

I wouldnn't just rely on the information provided to me.  I would have to either get a written confirmation of the information given to me (i.e if its a legal requirment then i would have to get a confirmation from Govt/Lawyers in regards to that) Or I would reference check the information by asking an outstide source to make sure that the activitiy is in line with the quality, time, scope etc frame of work.

Actually there is not one answer for all the cases, we have to defrinciate between diffrent jobs and tasks, in some jobs yes you can relay on verbal information after you do a cross check and find no contradiction with other related factors...but we have to insist on written instruction when matter is related to financial burden or major change in the policy .

- if the information is given from one dept to another, it is important to get it  in written form. or it may be a verbal information followed by a mail / message.

- for intra-departmental task, a verbal instruction can be taken, particularly if it is does not change planning or if it is not a numerical figure to be used in a calculation.   it can be accepted when it may be a change of priority of task and the boos wants to change the priority. it may be noted down and a mail to that effect may be sent to the boss.

All dependent on the source. I have a number of colleagues and friends who I would trust with my life! If they were to tell me something, verbally, in good faith then I would have no hesitation in acting on it.

There aremany channels to get information and oral information is just one of them and quickest of them. It is the managers discretion which of them are to be used and when to make a Decision.

No. It is based on the information we receive for instance, when we receive a dialogue or let me put in this way, if we involve in a conversation with our colleagues or vendors or superiors or esp, Gazette ranked officers working in the Public sector undertakings, the dialogues from each perspective will certainly differ from one another.

So we now need to think and ensure of what we delivered to them which should not make a verbal deed to those as I categoriese above, who keeps a designated position. Under any or such circumstance, the dialogue would eventually turned onto a verbal contrac from either side as accepting to it and forms a business transaction. 

Hence, practically, we should be very constructive of what we propose and receive in turn. It would be always better to get it confirmed thro writing or posting to the concerned as a confirmation of verbal assurance to let them understand that everything being recorded.
