Project outcomes are heavily influenced by the quality of the front end development and project controls in place.  The ability to influence the final outcomes of a project is highest during the early stages of design development and execution planning but rapidly diminishes through FEED as plans and design become definitive.  Conversely the cost impact of change grows exponentially through the life of the project.

Pro-active and effective project controls must be established and maintained throughout all stages of the project to ensure project optimization, enabling harmful trends to be quickly identified and appropriate corrective actions are applied.

Investing sufficient time and effort at the front end of the project execution process avoids unnecessary and costly changes during Detailed Design and Construction. Appointing a suitably qualified and experienced engineering resource from the beginning improves the security and commercial viability of a project.

The fact that one failed project can potentially wipe out an entire year’s profit helps put the value of Project Controls into perspective.
