What is the general requirements a customer may have?

Apart from the functionality, usually every customer have similar non-functional requirements such as security, scalability, high availability and upgrade/downgrade. Specific functionality, capturing functional requirements, is, of course, customer dependent.

Ideally, customers must know what they really need and has the resources to get the most appropriate item/service and not settle for less.
