What is the reason for increasing axial clearance in a Gas turbine?

Axial clearance should be increased towards the thrust side of the bearing, to compensate for axial displacement of the rotor. If viewed as a screw, a rotating compressor will tend to advance towards the front (need to take in consideration the rotation and shape of its blades to determine which side it will travel to ).
