How hard is it to transform to renewable energy in the Middle East ?

I believe that renewable energy will solve a big deal of problems in Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, where the consuming of oil is huge. Moreover, we have good resources ( desert and sun ) that should be used for the good of our economy.

Beacuse of the amount of sunlight it receives the middle east has a  high potential for Solar Energy.

Until energy storage technology improves, however, incorporation of renewables into electricity grids will be somewhat constrained, especially for the full use of larger planned projects.

Another hurdle being faced especially in the UAE is the dust build up on the solar panels because of the desert country's high dust levels, which significantly reduces efficiency.

Lack of investors just contributes to the hurdles.

Not so hard. Mapping of solar and wind potentials says so.

There is no word called Cant in this world. We can easily transform to any sector if they provide opportunity. Every individual has capability to adapt to the situation. Its only matter of time and opportunity.

Yes it's hard enough with probability of failure. The concept of renewable energy is totally different from area to another.

The issue here is not only resources, but also experienced specialists and education basis. In Saudi, the only source to be considered is the sun and to generate energy however, it lacks the mentality of consumption by the people. You cannot introduce a new technology "to middle east" without the awareness of the public. Not to mention that only counted institutes around the middle east are into this area.

Geographical location of middle east is very suitable for renewable energy. There is a large potential for renewable resources like large deserts in the Middle East which, up to this point, have remained largely untapped.

Renewable energy will be the right solution to arab countries to help their economies and also have a clean source of energy

I think we are facing three problems in transforming to high renewable energy penetration in our energy mix:1- Procedures in some middle east countries are very to complex to invest in such new fields specially with international arbitrations agreements so we have to standardize and verify inevestment steps.2- Spreading culture of using renewable energy between people >> and that is the resposibilty of governments, companies and NGOs

3- Local manufacturing of renewable energy projects components in middle eastern countries is very weak >> so raching grid parity prices is a far target to get >> i think if we are going to say that we need to go to high penetration of renewable energy localization and personnel training is a must

Well, its definitely a big boost for climatic control. And with lot of sun, can do wonders with renewable energy. But only worrysome matter is sand storms and apart from that I think its definitely easy. We in Andhra Pradesh, doing the same with vacant lands around in certain areas.
