Will the Middle East continue as an 'energy superpower' in the years to come given the shift toward alternative energy and unrest within the region?

Given the oil reserves beneath the Middle East, it is not too much of a reach to assume it will stay a power in the global energy dynamic.  However, with the shift in preference (moreso in the west) toward alternative energy, will the Middle East, utilize its high solar energy potential?  More specifically, will the ME become a leader in the alternative energy market, or will its efforts stagnate at the altar of lobbying, conflict, and oil influence.

Though the whole world is trying to put more invstment in renewable nergy sources to unchain them from the huge import bills, I donot see any reason why middle east will lose its predominance as  the energy super power because"

-The consumption of carbob fuel is increasing world wide as the oil demand is increasing , especially in develping countries.

- The technology for affordable  and reliable Electric cars will take years to evolve and the demand for petrol/diesel card will increase worl wide.

Use of Nuclear technology for power is not going well in Europe due to safety concerns.

-Solar power technology has not yet reached its full potential and need more R&D , experience  and improvement to be accepted as alternate power source.

Yes, I think it is. Reason one, Oil still is the most popolar energy source by far, no matter consumer using end and fundamental construction, imagine you cannot use a cell-packed reaper to crop thousands hectares of wheat. Reason two, if Middle East Oil could be replaced by others alternative energy easily, the Super Power countries would not spend millions of dollars to fight in this region while those people are the most smartest guys in the world. Reason three,  my personal opinion also support the Middle East still is the "super power" energy during the coming years.

yes due to it innovative ability and implementation of alternative source of energy

Proceeding from the premise that preoccupation with the Cold War rivalry prevented both superpowers from adequately assessing the situation on the ground in the Middle East, Taylor analyzes the efforts made by the U.S. and the Soviet Union to gain political ascendancy in the area since.
