What's SCM?

Well it doesn't really affect the question.  If you're trying to keep pace with technological advancement you're already in trouble - it isn't a sensible place to be.  Either be content to be a "follower" (which is appropriate for many small businesses) or lead the market: you should be asking your software vendors why you can't do the things you want to do.  

A useful tip for staying at the front of technological advances is to become a beta tester.  That way, you get hold of everything before it's even finished, never mind released.  Moreover, you get the chance to shape it in a way that benefits you.
