Great leaders show us the distination. They might suggest either what to do or hw to do it but they leave the final call for the doers.

I agree PARTLY with this statement and I need to distinguish between the levels of leaders involved in this question.

 

  1. The statement may be true in the case of  TEAM LEADERS who should stop tellig their TEAM MEMBERS what to do ONLY.  Instead they should ROLL UP THEIR SLEEVES, get their hands dirty and show their team mebers HOW it can be done !
  2. The statement maybe false in the case of ULTIMATE/SUPEREME LEADERSHIP  which puts the overall vision, sets  directon, inspires the troops, highlights the way, and becomes  the motive force behind progress and moving forward .    

 

The difference is that the first level of leadership (TEAM LEADERSHIP) is at the execution level, while the second level (TOP LEADERSHIP)  is at the vision and direction setting level .

I believe leaders educate and guide a company and it’s management how to come up with their own decision making process and achieve the desired results.

I see that the first part of the question is right: i.e., great leaders do not tell you what to do.

But, the remaining part is confused with the premise. The main role of a leader is how to direct the work and that is the key difference between classic management and modern management.
