You need to be a bilingual to translate from one language to another. A vast vocabulary is essential so that you can take benefit of dictionaries. You also need to have a good understanding of different expressions used frequently in the text because there may not be exact word in another language for a word in original text. So you'll be able to find a better replacement of that word.
