Off course... It is only based on you or if there is precisely mentioned that 'They require experience in Marketing only'.

What matters most is your skill set, understanding of Market place, current affairs & personality.

Sales to Marketing migration would be beneficial too as you may have practical knowledge of actual information's of market place thus influence greatly on carrying our promotions, deciding on BTL, Target Market specifications etc

In my opinion yes.

People with expertise in Sales usually know what the consumers want.

If they can combine it with the ability to market those insights before actual sales, they can make excellent marketeers!

The distance is very short.  With some additions to the skill level it is easy and can be successful.

Yes, in fact it is the easiest transition. When you are in sales, you know about the market practically and you can make the marketing plans according to the market. marketing is meeting customer demand by providing value for their money and bulding long term relationship with them. Everything is practically done by a sales person and if you are good at sales, not only by chance, you can be a better marketer.

I would say it's easier to move from sales position to a marketing position than the vise versa, got to be creative in both but less pressure, numbers to meat and deadlines.

Sales and Marketing are definitely linked.  Marketing is about strategy, and the long-term game: timing the market and thinking strategically.  Sales are unfortunately very often about numbers now, immediate gratification.  If one can bend their mind around the differences then I think yes it could be a painless move.  Also Sales is a high-pressure environment, and Marketing shouldn't be quite as high pressure all the time, just when a campaign needs to be delivered.
