Materials Management is the process of handling material transactions in warehouses which include material issue, receipt, inspection, storage, in addition to warehouse management processes like picking, packing and shipping.

Supply chain management can include all of the Materials Management operations in addition to other supply chain operations like purchasing, MRP, order management, supplier management, Bills of Material.

A supply chain of a certain product or a service essentially has three main parts, the supply, manufacturing and distribution: The supply side concentrates on how, where from and when raw materials are procured and supplied to manufacturing.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the management of a network of interconnected businesses involved in the ultimate provision of product and service packages required by end customers. Materials management is the branch of logistics that deals with the tangible components of a supply chain. Specifically, this covers the acquisition of spare parts and replacements, quality control of purchasing and ordering such parts, and the standards involved in ordering, shipping, and warehousing the said parts.

According to LEENDERS, (2004)  Purchasing and Supply Management (12 ed) that "the other name used for  material management are integrated logistic and supply chain management"

In my opinion that still the concept of supply chain has great ambiguity between supply chain specialists.

Hello, Supply chain Management is the study relating to the entire operations of a Industry starting from geting the orders from the customers, planning and procuring the materials, production planning, dispatches and delivery to the Customer. All the above stated functions are connected together as a chain and hence the managing of the supply chain is known as Supply Chain Management. Material Management is the study relating to the procurement, storage and dispatch of the materials and it is one part of the supply chain management.
