As a teacher, can you handle a student with special needs?

Ghadeer I have worked with "special needs" youngsters for the last8 years and find that it is equally challenging as it is rewarding. Nobody should ever be expected to be thrown in at the deep end and be expected to teach "special needs" without specialist training. The more we learn about the wide spectrum we know as "learning disabilities" the better understanding we will have and consequently the better our training will become, which of course will benefit the youngsters in the long run.

Through my teaching experience, there is no student without any sort of problem, sometimes psychological trauma, or a concealed problem regarding his family or a relationship with other classmates. A teacher should definitely expect to deal with students and their problems, perhaps disabilities (big or small) and shortcomings in their learning process.

Yes we can.

When you know your students, you will realise that there is a subtle need of special attentin in each one. But the need varies from child to child. The key of a teachers success is a passion to know the the children and the patience to remain with him. If you have both, you can teach a child with special needs, unless the child is in a condition that demands special training.

I must take a course to be able to deal with them.They are teachable but perhaps with different techniquesbut I have read recently that mixing them with their sound peers is better to improve them.

An aspiring  teacher can handle any student  with a structure classroom  environment  and modification essential to the  child  needs .
