What is it like to be a technical writer?

For me, it's quite interesting.  I like writing, I like learning new things, I like talking to people and I like researching.  I also like improving things and making them better/more useful.  Oh, and I love seeing something in print that I wrote/illustrated.  The lifestyle is generally good for tech writers: so much time in a lab or shop floor, but equal time at a computer; half the time with people, half the time alone.  It's a good mix.
