A receptionist can either rise to a higher administrative position (Secretary, Personal Assistant, Office Manager) or move sideways to a junior position within the business the company operates in, e.g. sales representative, recruitment officer or market research executive. Moves to customer service, HR and marketing departments are also very common. Receptionists with well-developed numerical skills often find their calling in accounts. It depends only on your interest and abilities. The role of a receptionist, esp. in smaller companies, is multi-faceted (you have to do a little bit of everything), so my advice would be to cultivate the skills that directly relate to what you want to do next.
