How would you deal with a student who regularly missed school or your class?

There must be some reason behind this action of this particular student. I would like to investigate it through discussion with him and his parents to sort out the root cause of the problem. It'll enable me to remove the root cause and encourage this chap to come to my class/ school without hesitation.
