A Business Analyst has to be equipped with varieties of skills and some of them can be summerized as below:
1. Complete knowledge of the business and organization in which the Analyst is connected to.
2. He/ She should have a clear cut knowledge about the industry with which his organization is associated with.
3. Additionla business knowledge about all the industries and business related to his current organization.
4. Clear understanding about the competitors.
5.Sufficient knowlede of organization's strength and weakness(SWOT Analysis, duly conducted periodically).
6. Finally clear understanding of the Expectations of the Management and future business plan.
Key essential skills for becoming a BA is to continue improve your :
- Always sharpen your curiousity
- Elicitation Skills (the ability to ask the correct questions to the right person to get the best answer to collect your requirement)
- Presentation Skills (how to present your ideas to the appointed audience)
- Experience in how to present your analysis in business process model and notation (BPMN)
- Problem solver
- Solution focused
These are the most important skills a BA should focus on developing in my opinion
