Yes by managing things in a good way when they are in your control you lead people as a role model.

Manage people could be in context just managing them , but when it comes to lead you have to set an example as leaders are not chosen easily there should be some qualities for being a leader in absence of a leader also somone can manage people.

So I feel leading has more broader angle to it from just management

i belive that we manage things and people but can only lead people.

in managing issues you must manage the cause of the issue which is people most of the time, unless it a natural disaster or....etc.

As a matter of fact, leadership and management are two different competencies, leader brings out change and a manager assures operational excellence; leader originates and the manager systemizes.

Management involves making things happen. It refers to planning and implementation in order to build ideas into realities. The role of the leader is more ethereal: to inspire, motivate and create.

In your personal life, you have the need to manage and the opportunity to lead. You may be managing your family budget, but you are leading your children as they develop into young adults. It's the same in your professional life—you are both a manager and a leader.

This is almost synonymous to saying...every LEADER can be a boss but not all BOSS can be a leader or Every LEADER can manage but not all MANAGER can lead.

We mainly manage things because they are inanimate objects  where as we lead people towards accomplishing certain objectives or jet job done, because people have brains, emotions, feeling, knowledge, skills , expertise, etc. so we lead them according to what we intend to do. Sometimes managing people is much more difficult than managing things (Physical or non physical things).
