Why would a company re-purchase their entire stocks and go private?

Maybe there's an MBO (Management Buy out) of a distressed public firm and the new management wants to keep the company private. Similarly, a public limited company at the brink of hostile takeover may end up buying all the shares from the bourse to keep itself safe from the takeover. There could be many other reasons.
