As a Teacher, how do you help your students overcome their fears while speaking the second language?

First and formost thing is to make child confortable in his classroom , then once the child becomes confortable he himself will start speaking. While child speaks we need to encourage and at the same time need to rectify his errors and make him understand , why it is important to correct.

I myself will defintly try to understand their language and give them the responce in theyes manner that i am understanding their point,afterwards i will convince them that they shoukd also know my language,in this manner there will be the urge to learn the other language with the confidence.

Few activities such as group discussion, elocution, etc. should be conducted as part of flipped teaching (student-led) using various methods like Jigsaw, think-share-pair, etc. where the students work together on a topic and discuss before they talk on a topic

I will encourage them to always think and speak in the second language until they are fluent when speaking it

As for me, it's just a matter of practice :) Students have to dig deep into the language. An interesting way is to unite students from different countries into one study group. They start to communicate in the target language anyway. It may be challenging, but it's effective. In other words, teachers can create situations where students should speak without preparation.

Always in my teaching especilly the tutorials I ask my students never bypass a word in a sentence without knowing it meaning and why been put in that  senence, and I inform them that teaching means catch knowledge to build his ablities.

  • To enhance self confident, students have to practice with their classmates and participate in various presentations. If the student felt that fialure is a necessary part of the progress of learning he or she would be able to express his/her thoughts. One step teacher shpuld apply is involve the students in topics that related to their interests such as games or talking about something that heor she prefer.
