In sales the target is being able convince buyers to purchase and marketing is being able to understand the how to encourage and sell items or services. 

Sales is the ability to persuade, marketing is about the understanding of needs being applied.

although both are used to increase revenue as the organizations grow old ger bigger these two filed gets more specialized. Marketing is a long-term plan whereas sale is a short-term one. Marketing shows us ways to sell the particular product or service on the other hand selling is the ultimate result of marketing.
