Football players are considered as economic assets for their clubs because they are contributing for their club in economic consideration. Good players are also be valued as Goodwill for a club thus they would be considered as club asset.

Yes, Of course, they are. Because they are playing under the instructions of a manager so they are a kind of employees and the performance of these players will bring economic growth to the clubs by buying their club products

as per AS they are considerd as Economic Assets , Even clubs make huge investments in them it can via Medical and others e.t.c

they are both employees and ecomic assets because an assest you can sell it any team and a employee is someone you pay for his or her services to you.

Take it from this angle, cost of acquisition of players is registration as ‘intangible assets’ in the Financial Statements which are then amortized over the contract period of individual players. Intangible assets recognized as above meet the criteria of IAS 38 in that the football clubs have control over the player contracts whose value is recoverable from the players’ performance and / or through transfer fees. The intangible assets are written down for impairment when the carrying value exceeds the amount recoverable through use or sale.

Hence the players are an Asset for the club.
