Could firefighting be done without fighting sprinklers?

It depends on the kind of building and velocity of the fire. If the velocity of the fire is not much no matter the height of the building, it is appropriate that a portable fire extinguisher should be used to fight the fire. Then if it is a high rise building and the velocity of the fire is much, the it advisable to combine both fire extinguishers and wet sprinklers/hose carbinets to fight the fire. Because fire extinguishers will help in quenching fire at corners where sprinlers might not have access to.

It depends on the type of building and whether building is high rise or low rise. If building is high rise, for sure sprinkler system is the best one to protect it. For low rise building with hight more than 11 meter; fire hose cabinets with portable fire extinguisher to be used for fire protection. Critical spaces with expensive equipment are protected with FM 200 - automatic fire suppression system.

In emmergency case fire breake down its not necessary to use sprinklers,it could be done using gaseous extinguisting system with CO2, FM200 or foam mixed type extinguisting system or by using water hose.
