What is the difference between multilayer switching and layer 2 switching?

L2 switch take forwarding decision based destination MAC using CAM table whereas Multilayer switch take forwarding decision based on destination ip address using FIB table.

in layer 2 switching only mac address and in the layer 3 switching ip&mac address spoted layer two work on iso layer 2
