If he is a sales manager, then he just manages the sales team and if he manages the accounts section also, we can say account manager. The perfect title would be the domain of his experience. We can either say Sales manager or accounts manager, these two are different domains.

He should be a salesman not a sales manager. Sales managers are responsible to the company while salesmen are to him. How can he effectively manage sales team if he will be working as an account manager.
