Procurement/Purchasing professionals must have formal training and education in law. Do you agree or disagree?

I would have to disagree, however it helps to understand some legal aspects of this profession if you have some education in this field and finance and have no understanding what needs to be done.

Not necessarily if there is a legal support within the framework for contractual development.  Do agree it is a crucial element given the severity / impact of direct / indirect flows, and the fact that your needs impact greatly the capability of others - e.g. what you procure and produce may be a material for your buyers process, hence the procurement / production chain.  

Sure I agree, because more knowledge in the law this means more secure once you fix the contract with the supplier

In some companies, they have Legal Advisors who will review any contracts or T&Cs for major projects to assure suitability of the T&C with the Scope of work and avoid any Legal implications during  implementation especially if contractor is non resident or in other country. In this case legal training will not be mandatory. However, having such training will certainly increase PPO effectiveness and awareness of expected risks in any contracts and assure  that they are well covered to protect the company from such liabilities or may be import discrepancies/violations in case of Materials/Goods.

yes, sure

for example cartel practice, some countries has anti cartel laws & it's very serious if procurement members fall under this practices even he didn't know it's against law, there already some fines some big overseas companies for cartel practice, also there criminal part may expose procurement member to jail.

So, if he got trained on some laws related will be very helpful

Purchasing/Procurement and law are two different things. Yes, in some portion of procurement activities, law may be directly or indirectly related but its not necessary that one must have formal education in law. However, in case of learning, sky is the limit. There is no disadvantage of learning..

Not necessary to be involve in laws...should know about work thoroughly thats enough to lead perfectly
