Normally MM cable cable for short distance & SM used for long distance,cost of MM cable is higher than SM Cable ,other side SM FO equipments are much higher than MM.

Single mode cable uses a laser as a light source and it is perfect and a lot faster on  long distance telecommunications.

Multimode cable works perfect on a single and closer building.

Multi Mode Fiber optics offer higher bandwidth and higher sped and thus give a better performance.
