A lesson has to be planned considering the age and grade of the students. It also has to keep in mind the different mental ages or the mental ability of each student in the class. The aims and objectives have to be clear as well as teaching aids have to be decided and prepared beforehand. The contents of the lesson have to be divided into smaller units so that the students can understand well. Students should be motivated for learning by adding interesting facts and relevant examples in the plan. There has to be a coordination in teaching and learning. Time also has to be considered while making a lesson plan work.

When planning a lesson, you have to take the learners age and level of development into consideration. You also have to look at what your aim for the lesson is and how you are going to actively involve the learners in order to achieve the desired outcomes. You need to think about what skills you wish the learners to achieve after the lesson. You need to create an educational lesson that is also fun filled in order for the child to get maximum benefit and absorb what is being taught and for it to be a lasting experience. You need to choose topics that are experienced by the child in their immediate environment as this will be most beneficial to them. When planning the activities in the lesson, you have to take the time in the year as a consideration as well as the weather for the day. Another important consideration is diversity, you have to cater for all different learning strengths especially if the child has a disability. Every child's need must be taken into account. You need to make sure you have the resources available for the lesson.

First and foremost, you have to consider your student's capabilities(strengths and weaknesses) to get a well-managed and well-planned lesson. Design an measurable and attainable objective that at the end of the day the students understand and able to interact the class discussion.  Materials are age-appropriate, readable and easy to grasp especially for students who have difficulty in some aspects.  Lastly, the instructions are clear enough to comprehend.

A lesson plan is the instructor's road map of what students need to learn & how it will be done effectively during the class time. A successful lesson plan addresses & integrates these 3 key components -

* Objectives for learners

* Teaching / learning activities

* Strategies to check student understanding
