In full-duplex communication, data can be send and receive simultaneously, telephone is the example of the full-duplex. In half-duplex data can transmit in one direction at the same time, if its receiving it cannot send, or if its sending it cannot receive, walkies-talkie is the example of half-duplex communication.

Full-duplex communication between two components means that both can transmit and receive information between each other simultaneously. Telephones are full-duplex systems so both parties on the phone can talk and listen at the same time.

In half-duplex systems, the transmission and reception of information must happen alternately. While one point is transmitting, the other must only receive. Walkies-talkie radio communication is a half-duplex system, this is characterized by saying “over” at the end of a transmission to signify that the party is ready to receive information.

Full-duplex means that communication can occur in both directions at the same time.

Half-duplex in another hand means communication can only occur in one direction at a time

Half duplex can not send and receive at the same time. It also has algorithms to detect and handle collisions (CSMA-CD). Think of it like a walkie talkie or a CB radio, only on a network.

Full duplex can send and receive at the same time. Think of it as a telephone.

One issue that can arise is sometimes you will see a 100 Mbps half duplex connection which should almost never happen. Since the 100 Mbps connection will most likely not be detecting collisions (it expects to be full duplex), it can be very very slow.

In half duplex the sender can send message and receiver can receive message ,at a time one can send and other can receive ,not both sending or receiving

in full duplex both can send and receive at a time.

Half-Duplex is a communication feature of stop-and-wait. It means, at a same time one user can only get access to communicate with end user. Whereas, in Full-Duplex, both the users have the access to communicate each other simultaneously.

Full and Half-Duplex. Full-duplex communication between two components means that both can transmit and receive information between each other simultaneously. Telephones are full-duplex systems so both parties on the phone can talk and listen at the same time

now while all answerd in the same maner what actually count or will appliy this as far as networking is concerd is the following full duplex equals a dramitick increace in network speads as you are going from a one lane street to a two lane street

now actualy from here you then dable into actul speed full duplex 10 is street while full duplex 1000 or 10 gb are high speed highway

Half Duplex means single side Communication of a device like Mouse , keyboard etc

Full Duplex means both Side Communication of a device in which user can Send and receive Data at the same time ex mobile phone.

Half Duplex is the transmission of data in one direction at a time. That is, one party has to send the data after receiving data from the transmitting party. Eg: a walkie-talkie is a half-duplex device because only one party can transmit at a time.

Full Duplex is the simultaneous transmission of data in two directions. That is the data can be sent from both the transmitting parties at the same time. Eg: a telephone is a full-duplex device because both parties can talk at once.

Half Duplex is used to describe communication where only... one side can talk at a time. Once one side has finished transmitting its data, the other side can respond. Only one node can talk at a time. If both try to talk at the same time, a collision will occur on the network.

As you can understand, this method of communication is not very efficient and requires more time to send/receive larger amounts of data.

Older networks used to work in half-duplex mode, due to the constraints of the network medium (Coax Cable) and hardware equipment (Hubs).

On the other hand, Full Duplex is used to describe communication where both sides are able to send and receive data at the same time. In these cases, there is no danger of a collision and therefore the transfer of data is completed much faster.

Today, all networks make use of Switches  (rather than hubs) and UTP Ethernet cabling, which allow full-duplex communication between all connected hosts.
