We are experiencing a sever depression in the GCC countries, giving the severe drop in oil prices and the political disturbances in the region. Investing in the healthcare sector and specifically in the medical technology industry, research and development can turn our countries from a big importer of such technologies into a producer to -at least- fulfill the local needs. This may happen on the long run, but we need to start to invest more in research and development sectors to achieve the desired goals.
I am focusing here on the Medial Technology Industry because unlike many industries which are heavily concentrated in just a small number of regions, the advanced medical technology industry can be geographically dispersed, providing direct jobs and income benefits in every region.
Potential for service oriented industry stands a chance in the region in question. Technology and skills can be sourced in to provide the end services and to develop skills for creating jobs among the unemployed.
