Yes, I agree with your belief that leaders should lead by example. Nice words accompanied by right actions is more compelling than inspiring people only by words.  You can only be a good leader if you are a good follower, yourself.

The nature of the vision and mission is critical for enabling others to feel as if their work has purpose and meaning beyond the tasks they perform each day.

Sometimes leaders have to help their staff connect the dots by explaining this big picture to all not by words but by feeling.

The inspirational leader feels passionate about the vision and mission of the organization. He or she is also able to share that passion in a way that enables others to feel passionate, too. Shared passion makes organizations soar in the accomplishment of their mission and vision.

Totally. Now a days. this is the only way people trust a leader.

this is the right way to lead people , to start do by ourselves. this is the leader it is 

and to act by words , this is the way to be a manager , not the leader , the point how you can keep your staff around you , when you act a manager
