What is the use of serial and parallel capacitors?

(Xc=1/2*3.14*F*C) its mean the total capacitance is effected on amount of frequency when use it as a filter where is the total capacitance in parallel case is Sum of each capacitors and in serial case will be less than a smaller capacitor value ... so we can use it to control or change the bandwidth of frequency selected
