Mandatory Access Control (MAC) is a kind of access control that is based on asset classification e.g Top Secret, Secret, confidential etc... This is usually obtainable in high security organizations e.g Military... Discretionary Access Control (DAC) on the other hand is a type access control that is determined by the owner of an asset. e.g a user that creates a file determines who has read, write or execute permissions on the file.

mandatory access control (MAC) refers to a form of access control where the operating system constrains the ability of a user to access or generally perform some sort of operation on an object in computer security while Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access control in which a user has complete control over all the programs it owns and executes, and also determines the permissions other users have those those files and programs.

the diffeence between is

  •  user has complete control over all the programs in discretionary access contol while in the mandatory access control a user has restricted permission to computer system

The major difference is that that DAC is access by identity and MAC is access by restrictions.
