What is the use of FMEA?

FMEA is a tool to minimize the failure moods 

FMEA is basically used for the idenfication of all potential failures (of process, design. machinery; depends on the type of FMEA) and to prioritize the failures which you should address first.   

Failure mode and effect analysis is an preventive tool  or a methodology used to identify potential failure modes and find out the mitigation in the Process. 

Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) is a step-by-step approach for identifying all possible failures in a design, a manufacturing or assembly process, or a product or service.“Failure modes” means the ways, or modes, in which something might fail. Failures are any errors or defects, especially ones that affect the customer, and can be potential or actual.

FMEA means Failure Mode Effect Analysis. It is a great tool when used to build the foundation of a process or product. It is a guide in helping to detect potential problems that may occur and create action items to detect or prevent it from happening. From the use of the RPN numbers, we are able to rank and prioritize which problems are more severe than others. FMEA if done correctly would reduce costs of redoing designs, create guidelines for process manufacturing.

FMEA in simple statement,used to identify the failure in the process,product,services and it is the best quality tool for process improvement. With FMEA we can rectify the cause and effect of the failure and will take corrective action at right time.
