The magic word is "Practice", it was not a mistake when they said "Practice makes perfect!" as it really does. Personally, I was a shy person since school days; and I recall first time in university where I had to present my project I was shaking and felt like I was going to have a heart attack! Now, I am more confident and it is only because of practice. Off course; communication courses & specialized training would give you some techniques that will help you ; but it will not be of any use if you do not out one or two techniques in practice.

More often than not people confuse personality trait with communication skills. Being an introvert or having a shy personality  and communicating effectively are different traits. To communicate better , it is absolutely imperative to understand the difference between the two.  However, there is a possibility that a person may be shy due to the fact that they may not be effective in communicating and hence are perceived as shy.  Communicating effectively requires a few steps :

1. Subject matter knowledge - you should have enough knowledge about the topic at hand and should be in a position to discuss it

2. Clarity of thought- should be clear on your ideas and message. At the same time be able to listen and respond according to the circumstances.

3. Confidence - Believe in self, believe in the idea in your head.

4. Group being addressed - how to communicate depends on the audience, if they are very senior- we may need to listen in more and speak at appropriate times, when we are the senior people addressing subordinates we need to create an opportunity for the other person to share their ideas and then finally speak with our ideas- encourage discussion rather than a monologue.

5. Command over language - it is important to be comfortable in the language we want to communicate in. if you do not know the language do not chose it to communicate in. If you do not have an option make an attempt to learn the language.

Keeping these steps in mind, anyone can communicate effectively at work place.

As a shy person the first thing I'll do is boost my self-confidence by reminding myself of all my achievements. After that, I will try and analyze and get to know my workplace and the people around to find the those I relate more to and feel comfortable with followed by sharing ideas and opinions while slowly trying to broader my circle of acquaintances (those who're keen on expressing their views and communicating). After achieving this I can try and organize small informative events in the office where people can freely talk about newest ideas and any current trending topics. This over a period of time, would surely help make not only me a great speaker, but improve everyone else's speaking skills too alongside helping me to overcome my shyness by creating a friendly mutually-benefiting atmosphere.

I always remember all of the achievements I have done in my life to increase my confidence. I start by making small talks with surrounded people and then by forgetting about the fear and enjoy the time.

first, by believing the fact:  Every excellent speaker started as a shy person

no matter how confident, strong, and excellent the person is as a speaker in front of audience, he/she must have been one day shy persons!

what happened? you practise, you try, you challenge yourself and take all risks, step by step you will be familiar with this act, familiar with facing different staring faces! and you'll become a good speaker gradually...

but you also should work on the psychological factor, make yourself always believe  that you dont care how many people are there, make yourself believe from the inside that you can always stand on stage and talk to strangers and present yourself properly, even if you shake after thinking like that when actually standing in front of them, lol.... because one by one this inner whispering  will become your true belief which will transform into actions later.

but remember, you cant change by hoping to, you have to take all chances to stand up there and speak out loud.

Stand in front of the mirror and look in it and go speaking.

When sitting or presenting in front of colleagues of seniors, dont think of any of them as if they are seniors to you and if you do something wrong you're doomed.. Take them lightly and dont take any pressure of seniors upon you..
